Is this you?

You are not behind. You are between.

Between who you have been and who you are becoming. It is a real place, more people are standing in it than admit to it, and nobody ever taught us how to cross it.

On paper, things look fine. You are capable. You are respected. You have built something other people would be pleased with.

And there is a version of your life you can sense but cannot quite reach, a gap between what you built and what would actually be yours. You have never said it out loud in exactly those words, because saying it sounds ungrateful.

It is not ungrateful. It is accurate.

What this tends to look like

You will recognise at least three of these.

  • You overthink every option, waiting for a clarity that never fully arrives.
  • You start things properly and then quietly stop, and cannot explain why.
  • You are the person everyone relies on, and that has become a reason not to change anything.
  • You have outgrown a role, a business, a habit or a definition of success, and have not said so.
  • You give very good reasons for waiting, and you half believe them.
  • You are tired in a way that sleep does not fix.
  • You can describe what you should want more easily than what you do want.
  • You are afraid that changing would cost the people depending on you.

None of that means something is wrong with you. It means you are in transition, and transition has symptoms.

What to call it

The In-Between.

There is no good word for this in English, which is part of why it is so isolating. You are not lost, not failing, not starting over. You are between two versions of a life, holding both.

The In-Between is not a problem to be solved quickly. It is a passage, and it has its own logic. Rushing through it produces a decision you will undo in two years. Sitting in it forever produces the life you already have.

The work is learning to cross it deliberately.

Being straight with you

This is probably not for you if…

  • You want someone to tell you what to do. Jessica will not hand you her answers.
  • You want encouragement more than honesty. This work involves being told things you already suspect.
  • You are in crisis or need clinical support. Coaching is not therapy, and the right help is a licensed professional.
  • You want the outcome without the discomfort. There is not a version of this that skips that part.
  • You are looking for a framework to adopt rather than a life to build.

If you read that list and felt relieved rather than put off, that is usually a good sign.

Still not sure

Three minutes will tell you more than another week of thinking.

The check-in asks six questions and gives you a straight answer about what is actually holding the pattern in place. No email required to see the result.
